About Sarah Yearout Design
Welcome!
My name is Sarah and I am currently based out of Long Beach, California. My love of design has manifested itself throughout the years, from makeup artistry to the fashion industry and finally settling on home design! From DIY to sourcing the best products for a home, I love it all. After so much notice from neighbors and friends I decided to branch out and offer my services to anyone with any size project. It can be organizing a cabinet, decorating a shelf to a full blown kitchen remodel. I love design and I love finding the perfect piece or color that will bring your home to a new level.
PROJECTS
I got my start after my husband and I bought and redid our first home; a 1950s bungalow on the border of Lakewood and Long Beach in California. We stayed up every night until 2 or 3 in the morning doing whatever we could do without our toddlers running through the paint. We refinished and redesigned all the bedrooms, dining room, kitchen and original white oak floors.
Soon we were off to our next project in Portland. This is where my love of natural wood cabinets and accents really developed. Portland brought a new challenge for us, a 1/4 acre property that ran wild with every berry bush or fruit tree native to our new area. Spending weekends on end clipping blackberry bushes is no fun! We remodeled the whole yard, built a deck and started working on the house.
Soon the rain got to us and we decided to fly South to Arizona where my husband has family. We chose Chandler and this house turned out to be our biggest project yet. We tore out many different types of flooring, painted over many different colors of paint and ripped out the backyard. The most unexpected update we did was paint the builder grade stone tile white (it was previously brown) in the kitchen backsplash and bathroom accents, which really inspired the rest of the house to be a sort of clean mix of mid century, bohemian and southwestern styles. We then installed turf and a modern glass fence around the pool to brighten it up.
After a couple of years home was calling us back so we packed up and moved back to Long Beach. Our new home would be a 1960s mid century right between the shore and LBSU. This home was in original condition (with a tiffany blue double oven!) with some very random upgrades to try and sell. The exterior had brown faux stones and was painted Retro Mint. We took it down to the studs, turned the master into a bathroom, added a 350 square feet master to the back of the house and threw in a pool. This project has truly been a labor of love, trying to keep the charm of the original era but with modern amenities. It still is, and probable always will be, a work in progress!
